A candidate shall

(a) be qualified for admission (see Admission Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework) Rule and Admission Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework) Procedures), including meeting the University's English Language Requirements for Admission Rule; or

(b) have completed 48 credit points of units from approved School of Health courses*.

Criminal Background Check

All students intending to undertake a professional experience placement in Australia whose work is categorised as 'practical training as part of an educational or vocational course', must complete an International or National Criminal Background Check. International students please check wtih the School of Health Clinical Placement Office for requirements.

Working with Children Check*

All students intending to undertake a professional experience placement whose work is categorised as 'practical training as part of an educational or vocational course', must complete a Working with Children Check application or appropriate overseas equivalent e.g. international police records check.

Vaccinations

Prior to attendance at UNE, students may need to ensure that they are appropriately vaccinated as per NSW Health policy.

NSW Health requires all students to be fully vaccinated and provide evidence of their vaccination status plus provide evidence of protection against the following: adult diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis, hepatitis B (all hepatitis B vaccinations must have been completed well before the commencement of the course), measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), varicella (chicken pox) and tuberculosis. Information about what is required is available at the ClinConnect Immunisation Compliance website.

Award of Degree

A candidate who meets the course requirements and does not specialise shall be awarded the Diploma in Community Welfare and Wellbeing. A candidate who meets the course requirements and does specialise shall be awarded the Diploma in Community Welfare and Wellbeing (Pacific Focus).

Course Aims

The course aims to provide graduates with a foundational set of knowledge, skills and attitudes that underpin employment and further study in health and social care.

Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  1. synthesise and apply foundational knowledge and skills to facilitate optimal outcomes for individuals and communities;
  2. demonstrate a range of skills in inter-professional and/or transcultural health contexts to meet individual and community requirements;
  3. work collaboratively and ethically with individuals or groups to implement socially inclusive and culturally appropriate strategies in a range of welfare and community sector settings; and
  4. use strategies to maintain their own health and well-being when working in challenging situations.
