Unit Description

This unit provides an exploration of theory and practice skills necessary for practitioners to communicate effectively and professionally with their clients and one another. All human service practitioners, whether they work with individuals, groups, and/or organisations require high level skills for interacting with others in a responsible and accountable manner. This unit focuses on interprofessional and interpersonal communication. Emphasis is on understanding and applying core concepts in communication processes (verbal, non-verbal and written) involved with active listening, assertion, empathy, ethics, engagement, intercultural communication interviewing and facilitative dialogue.
