Unit Description

This unit covers theoretical and applied aspects of measuring and explaining individual differences in intelligence, personality, and ability. Lectures and practical sessions cover reliability, validity, test development, and the application of psychological tests to various fields. Students develop skills and knowledge associated with survey development and analysis, scientific writing, and online survey hosting.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate coherent knowledge of the essential theoretical issues associated with the measurement of individual differences and abilities;
  2. evaluate and apply judgement to the development, administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychological tests;
  3. demonstrate knowledge of the main legal and ethical issues associated with psychological testing; and
  4. use analysis software and write scientific reports that model skills which contribute toward life-long application in a professional career.
