Unit Description

This unit teaches students to critically evaluate psychological research and introduces them to several advanced statistical techniques commonly used in the discipline. After completing the unit, students will be able to use SPSS to conduct a range of statistical analyses including: different ANOVAs, different multiple regressions, and factor analysis. Students enrolling in the unit must have access to the internet and a computer capable of running SPSS.

Materials Textbook information will be displayed approximately 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the teaching period. Please note that textbook requirements may vary from one teaching period to the next.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. critically evaluate research in the psychological literature;
  2. select appropriate data analytic strategies to apply to a wide range of research problems and data sets;
  3. use SPSS to conduct several advanced statistical analysis including: different ANOVA's, different multiple regressions, and factor analysis;
  4. correctly interpret the SPSS output for each of the statistical procedures covered in the unit; and
  5. write APA style research reports that summarise the results and communicate the findings to others.
