Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see Admission Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework) Rule and the Admission Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework) Procedures).
Candidates are referred to the University Policy on Advanced Standing.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be up to four years as a part-time candidate.
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 48 credit points.
Program of Study
Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Diploma in Professional Communication.
The Diploma in Professional Communication aims to develop an understanding of and competence in the core elements of professional communication. This gives graduates a competitive advantage in a variety of workplaces, whether in Australia or overseas.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
Knowledge of a Discipline
Graduates will be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills within communication studies and its underlying principles, concepts and methods. Graduate will develop the skills needed to analyse local, national and international media practices, with an understanding of diverse cultural contexts and perspectives.
The course develops skills of writing, reading, listening and communication ideas and arguments in diverse genres, contexts and forms.
Graduates will be able to solve problems by exercising critical thinking and judgement.
Graduates will be able to demonstrate an ability to gather, analyse and evaluate information and ideas from a range of sources.
Ethical Conduct and Social Responsibility
The study of media representations, cultural perspectives and communication ethics provides students with a basis for socially responsible action.
The attainment of disciplinary knowledge and skills in media and communications provides graduates with the capacity for independent lifelong learning.
Independence and Collaboration
The course provides students with the opportunity to learn and apply constructive principles of team work and social interaction in diverse social contexts of communication.
