|Pre-requisites||36cp in a relevant subject including at least 24cp passed at credit level or better and 12cp at 300 level, and permission of unit coordinator|
The 36cp prerequisite should be in units from the relevant subject in which the ARTS301 project will be undertaken. Where this unit appears as a listed unit in a Major or Extended Major, the topic must relate to the relevant discipline area, in order to be included within the Major.
Prior to enrolling in this unit students must gain the written approval of a supervisor (following submission of their project proposal form) and the unit coordinator prior to the commencement of trimester.

This unit offers students near the end of a major sequence in one of the Arts subject areas within the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences an opportunity to pursue independent study at an advanced level under supervision on an agreed research topic or practical project not covered in existing undergraduate units. For some disciplines, unit activities may include group work. Assessment is normally by individual project (in some disciplines, a group creative practice project is permitted, i.e. Music, Theatre Studies, although assessment is on basis of individual work). The unit does not provide set classes or teaching materials.
Enrolment in this unit needs approval from the School. To obtain approval, students are required to negotiate a project topic with a nominated supervisor and submit a satisfactory formal proposal, in accordance with School guidelines. Approval depends on the availability of supervision and resources.
