UNE has cancelled in-person, paper-based exams for Trimester 1 per government advice to avoid large indoor gatherings. Unit Description

This unit brings together the many aspects in COTT300, COTT301 and COTT302. Emphasis is given to topics beyond the farm gate and understanding the business environment that irrigated cotton production operates in. This includes technical aspects of the cotton fibre for spinning and garment manufacture, economic benchmarking of cotton farms and an on-farm consultancy. Business, consultancy and communications are major components of the intensive school.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. integrate the knowledge learnt in previous units with a broad and coherent knowledge of the business environment in which the cotton industry operates and apply this knowledge and skills in a paraprofessional situation;
  2. demonstrate a broad and coherent understanding of some technical aspects of cotton spinning and cotton fibre technology;
  3. knowledgeably discuss the business decisions that face cotton growers in irrigated farming enterprises;
  4. analyse, evaluate and communicate to an agriculturally aware audience what is involved in making recommendations on production, environmental and business for improved economic and environmental sustainability in the cotton industry;
  5. utilise communication skills to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas in professional report form and orally; and
  6. exercise critical thinking in application of economic benchmarking of cotton farms.
