CSLT402 Client Service Skills for Agricultural Consultants

UNE has cancelled in-person, paper-based exams for Trimester 1 per government advice to avoid large indoor gatherings. Instead, all exams will either be transferred to other modes of assessment, or offered online. Supervised Exam There is a supervised exam at the end of the teaching period in which you are enrolled. The exam will either be paper-based and offered at an established exam venue or online with supervision via webcam and screen sharing technology. Coordinated by UNE Exams Unit.

Unit Description

This unit has been developed in close consultation with agricultural industry consultants. Students will develop key skills required to be proficient as an agricultural consultant. These include skills in farm planning profitability and financial analysis; benchmarking; systems analysis; setting and assessing enterprise goals; resource allocation; managing risk and succession planning. In addition an important competency in operating a successful business is communication skills both interpersonal and group facilitation, and negotiation skills. This unit is available at both 400 and 500 level and will have differing assessment requirements at each level. For higher-level students this will include more analytical depth and/or wide research or responses.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. conduct a complete farm business analysis and develop improvements covering the physical farm plan, financial and production performance and resource and strategic allocation;
  2. prepare a business succession plan;
  3. apply the principles of effective interpersonal communication in gaining agreement, group facilitation and adversarial negotiation; and
  4. communicate effectively with clients individually, through effective presentations, facilitated workshops and negotiation sessions for clients.
