This unit is a RUILI (Regional Universities Indonesian Language Initiative) approved unit, currently offered in Mataram, Lombok, Indonesia.

Students with a pass of 70% or better in HSC Indonesian Continuers or students with HSC Indonesian Extension or equivalent level of knowledge should enrol at 200 level.

Students with existing competence in Indonesian (including HSC Indonesian Beginners) who are unsure of their current level of competence should contact the discipline convenor to request a placement test.

Indonesian or Malay native speakers are not permitted to enrol in INDN101, INDN111, INDN102, INDN112, INDN201 or INDN211.

This unit is not equivalent to INDN102.

In-class assessments are developed, administered and implemented by the Indonesian program provider under supervision from a resident director from one of the RUILI member universities.

The unit is offered in intensive mode in country in January to mid-February only.

Unit Description

This unit provides students with the opportunity of studying Indonesian in Indonesia at beginner level. It is an in-country programme developed collaboratively between the University of New England, the University of the Sunshine Coast, Charles Darwin University, the University of Tasmania and MALFI (Mataram Lingua Franca Institute) in Indonesia.

This unit is taught in-country, in Indonesia, providing a special immersion experience for beginner level of the Indonesian language and culture.

Materials Textbook information will be displayed approximately 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the teaching period. Please note that textbook requirements may vary from one teaching period to the next.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. communicate in Indonesian in both written and spoken forms through study undertaken at an in-country university at a beginner level;
  2. communicate in Indonesian on general topics at a beginner level; and
  3. demonstrate some understanding of the culture of Indonesia.
