Unit information

UNE student studies on a laptop on her lounge at home

This capstone unit will bring together the threads of your previous specialised learning in research and creative music practice. By studying this unit you will develop an independent professional standard of creative practice and research through the development of a self-designed, research-informed project in your chosen area of specialisation.

Your projects may focus on performance, composition, production or musicology or a combination of these areas. You will model professional project structures and work through design, development and delivery stages with staff support and peer feedback provided.

Learning materials for this unit will encourage critical and creative skills and expose you to a range of methodologies and practices used to develop work in academic and professional contexts.

Notes

Students should inform the Unit Coordinator of their chosen discipline area two weeks before commencement of lectures in each trimester.

This unit is repeatable. However, the unit cannot be undertaken more than once in any one teaching period. Where this unit appears as a listed unit in a Major, the topic must relate to the relevant discipline area (Musicology, Composition and Production, Performance), in order to be included within the Major.

Students training to be qualified school music teachers are required to study four units in musical performance to meet the Subject Content Requirements outlined by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NSWESA). MUSI340 can be counted towards these requirements if 'Music Performance' forms the basis of the 'Research Informed Creative Project'.

Studying online

At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.

We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*

Why study with us?

Graduate and mother Claire Haiek at work as a parenting producer at kidspot.com.au

I'm grateful to UNE for the opportunities studying has given me, but above all, for making me realise I could actually do it, and giving me a sense of accomplishment.
