Unit information
The major component of this postgraduate unit is a student-designed, research-informed creative project tailored to your own musical interests and needs.
Compared to the undergraduate units, this unit requires you to increase the scale of the project and expects the final project to be of a professional quality.
You can choose to specialise in either music performance, composition or production/music technology, or a combination of these, and are provided with staff and peer feedback to support the development of your project.
You will write up a project proposal modelled on a professional grant, festival and/or research project. You will participate in group mentoring and evaluation along with project development activities.
Learning materials for this unit will encourage independent creative research and expose you to a range of creative practices and research methodologies used to develop creative work in academic and professional contexts.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate advanced and comprehensive conceptual understanding of professional creative practice techniques and debates in their chosen area of speciality;
- demonstrate advanced-level research literacies required to inform professional creative practice projects through the application of critical thinking, analysis and evaluation, and engage with ongoing professional and academic debates about creative musical practice;
- clearly communicate and critically analyse creative practice goals, conceptual creative frameworks, methodologies and outcomes in a group;
- demonstrate creative, professional and entrepreneurial expertise with regard to creative practice techniques and research skills in the execution of a project;
- comprehensively and professionally articulate a project goals, conceptual framing and justify outcomes via a range of communicative methods including written, verbal and with the aid of current multimedia technologies; and
- produce high-level artistic support materials and professionally produced creative products in current professional and academic contexts and formats.
