Unit information

UNE student studies on a laptop on her lounge at home

In the rapidly changing world of neuroscience, your ability to understand and use current diagnostic tools in diverse clinical and scientific settings is critical.

In this unit you will be introduced to the techniques used in the assessment and diagnosis of human neurological dysfunction.

Focusing on neurophysiological, neuroimaging and neuropsychiatric diagnostic procedures, including clinical interviews and standardised self-report scales, you will be equipped with up-to-date knowledge to utilise an array of diagnostic techniques.

The unit explores clinical measurements as they relate to pathophysiology and considers strategies for forming diagnoses and planning interventions and some treatment models.

Topics include magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography, sensory evoked potentials and nerve conduction studies, diagnostic behavioural criteria and the validity and reliability of structured clinical interviews and standardised scales.

Studying online

At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.

We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*

I'm grateful to UNE for the opportunities studying has given me, but above all, for making me realise I could actually do it, and giving me a sense of accomplishment.
