| Learning Outcomes (LO)
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
demonstrate a broad and coherent body of knowledge of: key themes in international relations such as decolonisation, democratisation, politics of ethnicity and regionalism; regional trends and strategies in relation to politics, security, development and environment; the prevalence of weak states, political instability and conflict in Melanesia; and Australia's efforts to promote good governance, stability and development in the region;
with well developed judgement, compare and apply principal conceptual approaches in the field of Pacific studies;
present a clear, coherent, scholarly and independent exposition of knowledge, ideas and arguments; and
evaluate, analyse and synthesise evidence from a range of primary and secondary sources.
