Unit information
Develop specialised knowledge in an area of psychology research that is relevant to your study or career goals, with this special topics unit.
Guided by an experienced supervisor, the unit offers you the opportunity to hone your expertise through a tailored program of advanced study.
Your topic can take the form of guided reading, project studies, annotated bibliography, or similar written assessment (5000 words) as negotiated with your supervisor.
Designed to foster your development as an independent lifelong learner, the unit will help to consolidate the knowledge and skills you will need to respond to complex problems in psychological research.
Please note that before enrolling you must pre-arrange supervisory consent from a member of the School’s academic staff (your supervisor), ensure that you fulfil the unit prerequisites, and obtain approval to enrol from the unit coordinator and/or the convenor of psychology.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- independently research and apply established theories and appropriate methodology to undertake a specialised psychological research report;
- critically analyse, reflect on and synthesise information, problems, concepts and theories as they relate to psychology;
- interpret and transmit knowledge, skills and ideas, including problem solving skills to both specialist and non-specialist audiences through a written report; and
- model specialist analysis, research, and communication skills that contribute to life-long application in a professional career.
