Get a sense of what advanced academic research involves, and hone skills in critical thinking, problem solving and scientific communication that will help you to stand out in your career.

This unit offers you the opportunity to undertake a mini research project or literature review. Guided by an academic supervisor, you will develop in-depth knowledge in an area of scientific interest that you are passionate about and that fits with your course.

You will negotiate an agreed topic with your potential supervisor before the unit commences and seek approval to enrol from the Head of School of Science and Technology.

Extend your capacity for research in the sciences, or add to your expertise, with this unit.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate a broad and coherent theoretical and technical knowledge in a discipline of Science that has been studied;
  2. transmit knowledge, skills and ideas covering scientific discipline to others; and
  3. apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, well-developed judgement and responsibility in conducting and reporting on original research.
