Unit Description

The aim of this unit is to understand the ramifications of globalisation and economic and social development and their impact on social change. The focus will be on gloablisation, social and economic development, the environment, human rights, governance issues, social and political participation and media representations of issues of global change and significance.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate advanced coherent knowledge of the context in which development policies are conceived, formulated, adopted and implemented;
  2. independently evaluate the role and functions of governmental and non-governmental institutions in development;
  3. critically analyse some of the most vital processes in achieving developmental goals;
  4. apply integrated skills and knowledge to explore several key sectors in development management; and
  5. apply the skills required to organise and articulate ideas for a range of audiences and purposes by communicating effectively in written and oral presentations.
