Unit information
Be one of the 550 million people across the globe who are able to communicate in Spanish and future proof your career prospects by demonstrating your dedication and your competence as a student and as a communicator.
In this unit you will consolidate your written, oral, reading comprehension and communication skills in Spanish, in order to achieve an intermediate level of proficiency. You will further develop your grammatical knowledge and build your confidence when speaking with others in Spanish.
This will enable you to build a broad linguistic base for the study of Spanish and Latin American culture, literature and civilisation.

Notes
Students with existing competence in Spanish (including HSC Spanish Beginners) who are unsure of their current level of competence should contact the discipline convenor to request a placement test.
First language (Spanish) speakers may not enrol in Spanish language units except when required for (school) teaching accreditation in Australian states and territories.
Students may be able to obtain credit for their prior knowledge of the language under the University Admission Credit and Enrolment Guidelines.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate further increasing autonomy in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Spanish language at an intermediate level;
- utilise further intermediate structures and functions of the Spanish language, in particular grammatical structures;
- communicate with increasing autonomy in Spanish at an intermediate level with some depth on further selected topics;
- further apply extended knowledge of Hispanic cultural and social norms and Hispanic society; and
- use developed cognitive skills to analyse and synthesise information when communicating at an intermediate level.
