Notes

Students with substantial knowledge of Spanish but with no formal University qualification and students who completed their language study more than five years prior to enrolment should contact the discipline convenor to request a placement test.

Unit Description

Advanced study of Spanish language extending skills in reading, free composition, listening comprehension and oral communication. The unit illustrates aspects of contemporary Spanish and Latin American culture and society through the use of authentic written and recorded documents.

Materials Textbook information will be displayed approximately 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the teaching period. Please note that textbook requirements may vary from one teaching period to the next.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate accuracy in listening, speaking, and reading and writing skills in Spanish language at an upper-intermediate to advanced level;
  2. recognise, analyse and use a wide range of advanced grammatical structures;
  3. apply knowledge of an extended variety of vocabulary and appropriate idiomatic expressions and linguistic registers;
  4. use well developed cognitive skills to synthesise and critically analyse information when communicating at an advanced level; and
  5. apply advanced knowledge of Hispanic cultural and social norms and Hispanic society within the context of a range of topics.
