UNE has cancelled in-person, paper-based exams for Trimester 1 per government advice to avoid large indoor gatherings. Unit Description

This unit is designed to consolidate and extend the students' command of both the Spanish language and knowledge of Hispanic culture by exploring diverse cultural manifestations in different historical and geographical contexts. It is intended to build on the language, literature and cultural expressions studied in previous years, and to prepare the student for the writing of an Honours thesis in SPAN402H, done concurrently in the case of full-time students, and in the following year in the case of part-time students.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate a coherent and advanced knowledge of the methodological approaches and issues pertaining to Hispanic cultural studies;
  2. independently apply advanced analytical skills, critical thinking and research skills to aspects of Hispanic cultural studies;
  3. research, analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge of specific areas of Hispanic cultural studies;
  4. demonstrate an understanding of social and ethical issues in relation to Spanish language, literature, culture and society; and
  5. apply advanced communication proficiency in Spanish language to the study of Hispanic culture.
